Sam Seawright and his Coltman Farms Racing team announced that they are currently planning to miss out on the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series races at Lavonia speedway and Cherokee Speedway this upcoming weekend in favor of competing in the entire fifth week of the DIRTcar Summer Nationals.
The team shared its plan in a post to Facebook earlier today noting it would compete at Crystal Motor Speedway on July 10th and Oakshade Raceway on July 11th.
When asked in the comments if he would not be attending the Hunt the Front races at Lavonia and Cherokee on July 10th and 11th, the team answered, “Currently our plans are to race the entire week 5 of the Hell Tour.”
Seawright is currently 8th in the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series points, just 96 points behind current leader Ashton Winger. He has two Top 5s and three Top 10s with the series. His two Top 5s are a second at Talladega Short Track back on March 22nd and a fourth at Magnolia Motor Speedway last month on June 12th.
He’s currently 11th in points with the DIRTcar Summer Nationals after only competing in one race during Week 1 and then not racing again until Week 4. He’s currently 701 points behind current leader Tanner English heading into this fifth and final week that begins tonight at Montpelier Speedway in Monteplier, Indiana.
While he’s not a threat to challenge English for the overall points battle, it’s quite possible he could get into the top 5 and collect at least the $1,500 check from the overall points fund. On top of that, Seawright will likely contest for the Week 5 title. In Week 4, the only week he ran the full schedule for, he finished second to Tanner English, just 90 points out, and it could’ve been a lot tighter if he didn’t get caught up behind Brody Smith’s ailing car while he was leading at Highland.
Additionally, competing at the Summer Nationals stops in Ohio and Michigan gives him experience at tracks he’s never visited before and allows him to continue to build his notebook especially if the Coltman Farms Racing teams plan to compete on a national again in the coming years.
