After getting all eleven races in the books during the 2025 version of the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series presented by Coltman Farms Racing and fueled by Sunoco, the 2026 opener scheduled for Sunday, July 12 at Wythe Raceway has been rained out. With wet weather leaving the track and infield pit area heavily saturated and with more rain forecasted for Sunday, track and series officials have made the decision to cancel the $10,053 to win event. Since 2006, this marks only the third Southern Nationals show scheduled at the Rural Retreat, Virginia speedplant to be canceled due to inclement weather.
“Obviously not the way we wanted to start the tour,” quoted series promoter Ray Cook this evening. “The Brown’s are great to work with and they have expressed to me that there is no possible way the race can be held tomorrow with as much rain as they received today and unfortunately more is on the way. There were some race teams headed that way later tonight, so we wanted to get the news out as soon as we could to prevent any unnecessary travel.”
With the Wythe Raceway show no longer taking place, the focus shifts to the annual running of the ‘Scott Sexton Memorial’ on Monday, July 13 at Volunteer Speedway. A $7,552 first place prize will be up for grabs on Monday at the Bulls Gap, Tennessee venue. Along with the Super Late Models, the Sportsman, Street Stock, and Enduro divisions are also on the racing card. The Southern Nationals Enduro race will pay out $2,500 to the winner in a 100-lap headliner that will cap off the evening.
