Sugar Creek Raceway provided an explanation for why it decided to cancel its previously scheduled Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series race on Friday, August 21st.

During the Deep Fried 75 weekend at Duck River Raceway Park, the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series announced that it had moved the race that was scheduled at Sugar Creek Raceway for Friday, August 21st to Tazewell Speedway.

The series shared in a post to Facebook earlier today, “The tour’s event on Friday, Aug. 21 has been relocated to Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, Tenn., where the series will make its first-ever visit for the inaugural Jeff Wolfenbarger Memorial, paying $8,028 to win.”

“The race will honor the memory of longtime East Tennessee racer Jeff Wolfenbarger. A fixture at Tazewell and other Tennessee dirt tracks for more than 30 years in his No. 28 Late Model, Wolfenbarger of Clinton, Tenn., passed away last season following a battle with cancer,” it continued. “The tour’s move to Tazewell also sets up an exciting East Tennessee doubleheader, with the tour heading to Smoky Mountain Speedway on Saturday, Aug. 22, for the $12,000-to-win King of the Mountain.”

Additionally, the series shared in a press release that the reason it was moving to Tazewell from Sugar Creek was “due to scheduling conflicts with major community events taking place near Sugar Creek that weekend.”

Sugar Creek Raceway shared more details on the specifics of those conflicts and why they chose to scrap the race at the track, “Hosting an event of this magnitude is a significant financial commitment. With the opening night of area rival high school football and the annual Kiwanis Rodeo in Blue Ridge taking place the same evening we had to make a decision. Although not an easy choice, we feel this is the most responsible decision for the future of Sugar Creek Raceway.”

The race at Tazewell Speedway on August 21st is the next race on the docket with the race at Smoky Mountain Speedway next. After that the series will have only four races left, which include a doubleheader on September 25 and 26th at Swainsboro and the two-night finale at I-75 Raceway on October 2nd and 3rd.

After a third place podium finish and a win at Duck River Raceway Park for the Deep Fried 75, Ashton Winger has an 82 point lead over Dalton Cook. Joseph Joiner fell back to third and is now 96 points out of the lead. Meanwhile, Jadon Frame sits in fourth 106 points back while Jake O’Neil is currently 5th, 180 points behind.

The champion will get $50,000. Second place receives $25,000, Third place will take home $15,000. Fourth place will receive $12,000 and fifth place gets $10,000.
