Tanner English put together a solid top 10 run against one of the best fields in the country during the season opener for the FloRacing Night in America series at Spoon River Raceway. However, he does not plan to continue to compete in the rest of the Illinois Speedweek.
English posted to Facebook following his 8th place finish, “Solid night against a stacked field of cars, we will not be racing anymore this week or weekend in preparation for a busy next few weeks!”
As for when he’ll be competing again, he shared, “Our next races will be the Mars Races at Quincy, Highland and Coles county. Thank you to everyone that makes this operation go around!”
As for why he won’t finish out Illinois Speedweek, it comes down to managing his equipment and maximizing his chances for success. He told DirtonDirt.com’s Kyle McFadden, “That’s a hell of a field. … It’s like, the more we race, the more we realize how unprepared we are, especially the fast-paced deal like this. So, I’m gonna take this weekend [off] and get ready, you know what I mean? Get the truck ready and stuff. We haven’t had time to get everything together.”
“I’m having to watch where I go and go places I know I’m good at and know I can make some money at,” he added. “You know, really we don’t even need to be coming here with all these guys here. It’s hard to pass up because we ran third here [in 2022].”
English currently sits 4th in the MARS Championship Series. He’s 28 points behind current points leader Ryan Unzicker after two completed races. English finished third at the Brownstown Bullring at the end of April and 12th at Peoria Speedway. As he indicated in his Facebook post the next races for the series are at Quincy Raceways, Highland Speedway, and Cole County Speedway on May 15th, 16th, and 17th.
