Talan Willis and the USRA American Racer Modified Series presented by Day Motor Sports stole the show Sunday at Arrowhead Speedway, while Tanner Mullens emerged from a race-long championship battle with the crown for the USRA Heartland Modified Tour presented by Real Racing Wheels.

Willis passed CDR Chassis teammate Stormy Scott on lap 16 and led the remainder of the 30-lap Pannell Chipping main event, collecting $2,000 in the finale of the 8th annual Joe Duvall’s Funkadelic Dirt Track & Honky Tonk Extravaganza presented by Ameriflex Hose & Accessories. Scott finished second, giving the ARMS points leaders a one-two finish against a 52-car field.

Behind them, Mullens finished eighth to secure the HMT championship by 19 points over Tyler Davis, who crossed the line in tenth.

Willis and Scott led the field to the green, with Scott taking command early and Willis giving chase through the opening half. Farther back, the HMT championship remained unsettled as Mullens and Davis clawed for positions in the back half of the top ten.

The two battles intersected on a pivotal lap 16. As Willis overtook Scott for the race lead, Mullens passed Davis for the final time this season. Both moves stuck: Willis stayed out front to the checkered flag, while Mullens maintained his advantage over Davis to complete his championship run.

Jim Chisholm finished third, followed by Friday’s Springfield Raceway winner Rodney Sanders, who advanced from 11th to fourth. Terry Phillips completed the top five.

The ARMS contingent continued its strong showing with Reece Solander charging from 15th to sixth, Drake Findley finishing seventh and Kale Westover taking ninth. Along with Willis, Scott and Sanders, ARMS standings contenders occupied six of the first nine finishing positions.

Mullens’ championship-clinching performance capped a decisive final weekend. After taking over the HMT points lead with Saturday’s $9,591 victory at Salina Highbanks Speedway, the Wichita, Kan., driver finished the season with 1,581 points to Davis’ 1,562.

Trevor Hughes finished 11th Sunday and secured third in the final HMT standings with 1,462 points. Chevy Coleman advanced from 21st to 14th in the feature and edged Wyatt Gaggero by two points for fourth in the championship, 1,379 to 1,377. Henry Chambers, Dean Wille, Shadren Turner, rookie Cole Campbell and Rick Beebe completed the season’s top ten.

For Willis, the Arrowhead victory strengthened his position atop the ARMS standings. The Elizabeth, La., rookie left with 971 points and a 114-point advantage over Scott. Findley held third with 770, followed by Westover with 737 and Jason Hughes with 694.

Earlier in the evening, Terry Phillips won the Rick Beebe Heating and Air Conditioning heat; Willis captured the Smith Equipment Company heat; Jim Chisholm took the Kevko Racing heat; Drake Findley won the Swift Spring heat; Scott claimed the Mel Hambelton Ford Racing heat; and Davis topped the Integra Shocks heat.

Dean Wille and Chad Davis won the Real Racing Wheels and Day Motorsports B Features, respectively. Tyler Stevens posted the quickest lap in Deatherage Opticians qualifying at 14.461 seconds, while Devin Barker paced the second group at 14.727.

Sunday’s contingency awards added to the Funkadelic finale, with Talan Willis collecting an additional $191 from Pettyjohn Plastering and Construction, which also awarded Rodney Sanders $1,091 for the highest three-night average finish. Tyler Stevens earned the $191 Deatherage Opticians/Bulletproof Tees Quick Time Award and a Quick Start Wash Cap from Trackside 3D Printing. Reece Solander’s charge from 15th to sixth earned the $391 Transmissions Unlimited/Bulletproof Tees Hard Charger Award. Transmissions Unlimited also paid $100 each to Treyton Gann, Sam Osman and Steve Holzkamper from the first B-Main and Josh Harney, Danny Southerland and Rick Beebe from the second, with Kendall Shultz and Aaron Moss receiving $50 each.
