The FloRacing Night in America series and LaSalle Speedway announced that the series opening race has been postponed following overnight thunderstorms and rain.
A press release shared, “Severe thunderstorms overnight, paired with lingering rain this morning and overcast conditions predicted for throughout the day, have forced officials with La Salle (Ill.) Speedway to postpone their FloRacing Night in America event, which was scheduled for tonight, Tuesday, May 5.”
“We got a heavy rain yesterday evening, but the bigger problem is that rain redeveloped overnight and this morning, and there’s just not enough drying to overcome it,” said track promoter, Tony Izzo. “It’s part of the game, but it just stinks because we were really excited to get the year started. You obviously can’t control the weather though.”
The series and track officials have not set a date on when the race will be rescheduled, but are already working on figuring it out.
With LaSalle being postponed, the series will kick off its 2026 Illinois Speedweek at Spoon River Speedway tomorrow Wednesday, May 6th. It will then head to Lincoln Speedway on Thursday, May 7th. Both races have $20,000 on the line for the winner and $1,000 just to start the feature.
Along with the late models, DIRTcar Modifieds will be on the docket for both nights.
Bobby Pierce is the defending series champion. He best Jonathan Davenport by just 6 points in 2025. It was Pierce’s second series championship. He previously won in 2023 as well. Other champions include Ricky Thornton Jr. in 2024, Brandon Sheppard in 2022, and Jonathan Davenport won the inaugural championship in 2021.
