Trey Mills saw his night end early after he wrecked and ended up on his roof on the back stretch at Southern Iowa Speedway with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series.

On lap 14 of the 35-lap feature, Mills flipped over on the backstretch in front of the race leaders. In fact, race leader Dustin Sorensen locked up his brakes and spun into the wall to avoid Mills’ car that had come to a stop on its lid in the middle of the race track.

Mills would climb from the car and walk away from the wreck.

It was unclear what exactly happened that caused Mills to wreck. Derrick Stewart, who had a front row seat to the wreck, told DIRTVision during the race, “I think something in his right front broke or the right front tire went down on, it just went right on him into the fence. I didn’t really know which way to go. He hit the fence and then he kinda started making his way down the race track so you just got to try to slow down without causing anymore havoc.”

Mills’ team confirmed that it was a flat right front that caused him to wreck. The team shared in a post to Facebook, ” Trey blew a tire and hit the wall head-on, causing the car to flip. Thankfully, Trey is safe and walked away from the wreck! “

“We don’t have any video of the accident, but Trey said it was the hardest he has ever hit the wall.” the team added. “We are beyond thankful that he was not hurt—because at the end of the day, that is all that truly matters!”

With the car out of commission after the wreck, the team revealed they only have one car left, one they were planning to save for the World 100 at Eldora Speedway. However, they will be debuting it tonight at Adams County instead, “We now only have one car left, and it just happens to be the car we had planned to reveal at the World 100 at Eldora Speedway! Well… plans have changed, and we will be revealing it TONIGHT!  “

Mills has had a rough trip to Iowa with the Outlaws. He finished 18th and 13th at Maquoketa while his main rival for the MD3 Rookie of the Year points chase, Daulton Wilson, clicked off two 7th place finishes. Mills saw his single point lead turn into a 33 point deficit.

That deficit has more than doubled after Mills’ wreck at Southern Iowa Speedway. To make matters worse he was also disqualified after one of his crew members entered the track following the wreck. With the disqualification he was awarded last place points, in this case the 23rd position. He now finds himself 71 points behind Wilson.
