Treyten Lapcevich Releases Statement Condemning Attack On Corey Heim After Race At Martinsville

Treyten Lapcevich released a statement condemning the attack on Corey Heim following the conclusion of the ValleyStar Credit Union 300 at Martinsville Speedway on Saturday night.

Lapcevich shared the statement to social media. It reads, “What happened with COrey after the race was wrong, and it should not have happened. While I was not involved in the incident, I want to be clear that I do not condone any actions that took place.”

“Emotions can run high after a race, and I was certainly frustrated and upset following Saturday night. I planned on having a conversation with Corey following the race; however, there is clear line between being angry about what happens on the racetrack and allowing that frustration to become physical. What happened after the race for sure crossed that line,” he continued. “No matter the circumstances, frustration from a race never justifies putting your hands on another competitor. I am glad Corey was able to walk away from the situation okay.”

“Those actions were unacceptable, and they do not reflect who I am as a person or as a competitor,” Lapcevich concluded.

Lapcevich’s condemnation comes after he and Heim raced hard for the win and eventually second place at the end of the race.  Heim in the No. 22 Nelson Motorsports car battled with Treyten Lapcevich in the No. 77 and Caden Kvapil in the No. 88 for the win. As they got the white flag, Heim gave Lapcevich the bumper in turns 1 and 2 that got him sideways. After he got it corrected exiting the corner, the two beat and banged down the back stretch. Heim then drove it deep into 3 and 4 and pushed Lapcevich up the track. 

While all that was happening, Kvapil pulled away to get the win. Heim finished second and Lapcevich settled for third.

On the cooldown lap, Lapcevich expressed his displeasure by coming down on Heim. Heim responded by running into the side of Lapcevich’s car and then up and over his left front. Heim then crashed into the outside wall while Lapcevich spun to a stop in the outside of turn 2.

After the wreck, Lapcevich marched down pit road in an attempt to confront Heim, but he was stopped by team owner Chad Bryant.

Lapcevich reacted to the wreck telling Short Track Scene, “Disappointed, obviously. Disappointed in Corey as a racer, as a person. Obviously, angry about what he did on the track there. He was running into everyone all night. You saw how he was racing with Caden and how he was racing with Lee. Cup guy or not, it doesn’t matter to me. We’re all the same out here when you get to the track.”

“After the race, I kinda went up to his right side, and I was running him tight, and all of a sudden he just gasses it up and drives over my left front. Like you said, kills both of our cars. Just unnecessary. We got to race that car at Newport next week. Obviously, disappointing for sure.”

Heim shared his perspective saying, “He like tried to pin me under the curb and just kept turning left and then my right front hopped his left front and destroyed a perfectly good race car. So I’m upset for that. He looks classy, and I guess we’ll keep moving forward. It’s not my car, I don’t own it, so I’m not mad.”

“I really don’t understand him. We’re racing for the win, and I can’t see what he sees. And, yeah, I don’t know. I mean, he just tried to destroy my car under cool down laps and succeeded,” Heim added. “So, Late Model Racing I guess.”

Following post-race interviews, Heim was attacked by multiple individuals at the hot dog stand.

Heim reacted to the attack on X writing, “Solid effort, but at least make it count next time 😂.”

On Monday, he revealed he had acquired the menu that from the hot dog stand. He wrote, “New office piece. Poor thing took a beating this weekend.”
