Tyler Erb shared some of the playful advice he frequently gives to his fellow World of Outlaws Late Models competitor Trey Mills.
During the most recent episode of DirtVision’s Pit Bull, Erb joined hosts Hannah Arnold and Conner Wade. While discussing some of the young talent making waves in sprint cars and whether or not there should be age limits on when drivers can compete, Erb shared, “The catch side to that, which were past this, but Tim McCreadie would be like, ‘Listen, if they’re not 18, dude, and they can’t get punched in the head then they shouldn’t be allowed to race with us.’ Well, I get that.”
“Because I tell Trey Mills that all the time. He just turned 18. ‘Dude, you got like another month. You can wreck people, but after that you’re getting beat up.’
He’s like, ‘Dude, no one wants to beat me up.’
I’m like, ‘I’m just saying you got a month of free passes where you can do some crazy [crap] and then after that you’re going to get beat up.’
And he’s like, ‘Ya think?!?’
I’m like, ‘Well, yeah, you can’t beat them up before they’re 18. That’s a no-no. Trust me. No-no.'”
As far as what Erb’s thoughts were on whether there should be age limits, he shared, “I think it’s all just experienced-based. I don’t think the age matters. And if your parents are willing to put you in this thing and you’re 14, 15, and you’re not scared of it then, hey, have at it. I’m all for it. I think it’s good. I just think there’s a line where you need an enforcer that’s like 17 years old that can like pick on the little kids if they’re doing dumb stuff to get them up to speed. That way when they get with the older guys they’re not shocked that some 39 year old man is screaming at them after the feature or something.”
Tyler Erb and Trey Mills head to 141 Speedway in Maribel, Wisconsin to kick off the World of Outlaws Late Models two-week trip up north that also includes stops at Ogilvie Raceway, I-94 emr Speedway, River Cities Speedway, Nodak Speedway, and Norman County Raceway. It concludes over the Fourth of July at Deer Creek Speedway for the famed Gopher 50.
