Tyler Nelson vaulted into the USAC Midwest Thunder SpeeD2 Midget point lead by virtue of his victory on Saturday night at Putnamville, Indiana’s Lincoln Park Speedway.

The defending champion from Olathe, Kansas started fifth in the field and was able to track down Jalen Cox for the lead on lap eight, then paced the final 13 circuits of the 20-lap feature.

In the end, Nelson crossed the line 2.749 seconds ahead of the field to capture his third series win of the season and the fourth of his career, tying Drew Rader for 11th place on the all-time win list.

Following Nelson to the stripe were runner-up Matt Lux with Stratton Briggs third, Cox fourth, and Trisdon Brown fifth.

Bryce Massingill entered the night with a four point lead in the standings, but a throttle sensor issue on the parade lap put him out of the race before the green flag. His subsequent 24th place finish now has him down to third in points, 46 markers out of the lead with one race remaining on October 3 at Indiana’s Montpelier Speedway.

Nelson was also the Velocita by Borsos Racing Fast Qualifier with a time of 13.059. Nelson also pocketed a $100 winning bonus courtesy of Hodge Lawn Care.

Performance Powder Coating Hard Charger honors went to Jon Watson with his run from 23rd to 13th. Ian Creager made the Rosewood Machine & Tool Precision Move of the Race. Buddy Hollmeyer grabbed the Curtis Motor Sales / LynK Chassis 10th Place Finisher bonus. The Wilwood Disc Brakes Tough Brake award went to Landen Francis.

Heat races presented by Jeff Hill Trailer Sales, Stiefel’s Home & Auto, Hoosier Auto Racing Fans, and Performance Electronics were won by Matt Lux, Tyler Nelson, Jalen Cox, and Chett Gehrke.

Kole Kirkman added a $200 raffle bonus from H & H Racing, which was up for grabs to all drivers who competed in both nights of racing this weekend on Friday at Circle City Raceway and Saturday at Lincoln Park Speedway.
