Vic Hill shared a new update on the status of Volunteer Speedway following a conversation with track owner Phyllis Loven.
Hill had previously announced that the track would be sold and no longer operate as a race track. He stated in a now-deleted post on Facebook, “The facility has been sold, and it will not continue as a racetrack. Racing at Volunteer Speedway is over.”
“Despite all the work that has been done, we were not able to reach the point where the operation could support the purchase of the property,” he added. “The new owners have plans for this property that do not include racing. Because of that, we have to be honest with everyone who cares about this place.”
From there, he announced that the FloRacing Night in America series race scheduled for October 22nd would be the final race ever held at the track, “The race scheduled for October 22 will be the last race ever held at Volunteer Speedway. This is not something we say lightly. The thought of 52 years of racing history coming to an end is heartbreaking. But we believe everyone deserves to know where things stand.”

However, since that post, he had a conversation with Loven and shared that there has been movement in the opposite direction to keep it a race track.
Hill posted a video to Facebook, where he stated, “We are working very hard to make this place continue as a race track. The post I did make, there were some people interested in this place, but now there’s been some new people involved that really want to keep this place going. And, man, I’m 100% behind it. I wouldn’t have given five years of my life over here away from the engine shop trying to make this place stay on the map, that’s for damn sure. Some people might disagree with that, but if they lived in my pocket and got to see all I try to do for this place they would realize it.”
“I really think Phyllis wants it to be a race track,” he added. “But times change, people want to give big money for different things other than a race track.”
While he noted there has been movement in the other direction he’s still cautious about the track’s future.
“I’m not guaranteeing anything. We’re going to play it day-by-day,” he declared. “One thing’s for sure, I’m going to get this place ready for that Flo Night in America, a week from tomorrow and hope we have a hell of a race.”
“And, again, I hope there are more races here. We will just see what the cards we get dealt. Like I said we’re working hard to make sure this place doesn’t go away and we’ll do our best. We’ll hopefully see you guys Thursday or you can watch it on Flo Thursday. It’s going to be a hell of a race here irregardless of all the stuff that’s going on,” Hill concluded.
The FloRacing Night in America race set for October 22nd will pay $20,000 to-win and will also feature a 100-lap Enduro race.
