A bullring battle in the “Great White North” awaits the best drivers in the Northeast, as the Super DIRTcar Series heads to Canada for the first time in 2026.

The Beasts of the Northeast will visit Cornwall Motor Speedway in Long Sault, ON, on Sunday, May 17, for the Spring Shootout at Cornwall. Drivers will battle in a 100-lap Feature with $10,000 on the line for the first time this season.

Joining the Super DIRTcar Series at Cornwall are the track’s DIRTcar Sportsman and Mini Stock divisions.

Here’s a look at what to watch for at Cornwall:

Early Consistency: Through two races, defending Series champion Mat Williamson’s consistency from 2025 has carried over to 2026. The St. Catharines, ON driver leads the Super DIRTcar Series standings by three points over Stewart Friesen after his fourth-place finish on Wednesday at Georgetown Speedway. That makes it eight consecutive top fives and 24 straight top 10s in points-paying events.

While Williamson hasn’t won a Super DIRTcar Series race at the Ontario track, he’s been successful at Cornwall in the past. He’s reached Victory Lane there on seven occasions, with his last win coming in 2024. In last year’s O’Canada 100 at Cornwall, Williamson finished third.

With Friesen not expected to challenge for the Super DIRTcar Series title due to NASCAR Truck Series commitments, the next driver chasing Williamson is Alex Yankowski, who enters Cornwall third in points after his win at Georgetown on Wednesday.

The Covington Township, PA driver is 13 points out of the lead after two races. But unlike Williamson, he’s only made two starts at Cornwall. His best finish was during last year’s O’Canada 100, where he finished fourth.

Fortress of Solitude: After not finishing Wednesday’s Delaware Diamond 50 at Georgetown, 10-time Series champion Matt Sheppard is aiming to bounce back at one of his most successful tracks on the Series.

Sheppard, from Savannah, NY, is a four-time Series winner at the track, including three consecutive victories from 2017 to 2019. A win on Sunday would be his 104th Series win, bringing him closer to Brett Hearn’s mark of 141 wins on the Super DIRTcar Series all-time wins list. A win will also tie Hearn for the most Series wins at Cornwall (5).

Sheppard finished 13th in last year’s O’Canada 100.

ONE to Watch: When Felix Roy unloads at Cornwall on Sunday, it’ll be the first time the Napierville, QC competitor will drive the Paille Course Racing No. ONE in a Super DIRTcar Series event. Roy took over that ride after the team split with David Hebert in the offseason and is expected to drive the car in Super DIRTcar Series events in Canada in 2026.

“Hollywood” has been successful at Cornwall in his career, scoring five wins, 16 top fives, and 22 top 10s in 30 starts.

A win by Roy on Sunday would be his first career Series victory.

Canadian Contingent: Williamson and Roy aren’t the only Canadian drivers who will be aiming for a victory on Sunday.

Along with several track regulars, the Spring Shootout will be the first time in 2026 that the Series will see last year’s winner, Mario Clair, from Drummondville, QC, and last year’s runner-up, Dalton Slack.

Clair held off Slack for 100 laps to win last year’s O’Canada 100 and aims to add a 14th Cornwall win to his resume this weekend. However, Clair has made only one start this season, finishing 11th in a 358 Modified event at Airborne Park Speedway.

Slack, from Welland, ON, has made two starts this season, one at Lernerville Speedway and another at Weedsport Speedway, finishing outside the top 10 in both. Including last year’s second-place Series finish, Slack has two top fives and four top 10s at Cornwall.
