Brian Carter, the CEO of the World of Outlaws parent company, World Racing Group, shared that the company’s tape delayed broadcasts on CBS match their live viewership numbers on DIRTVision.

During the Knoxville Nationals, Carter spoke with Chaz Thompson aka The Chaz about doing something similar to what FloRacing has done with its High Limit Racing events this year by simulcasting them on both FloRacing and Fox Sports 1.

Carter said, “It’s a counterintuitive piece. Our viewership on our tape delay shows are as good or better than our live shows.”

“The package that we have with CBS creates momentum through the summertime,” he elaborated. “We can plan these out. DIRTVision’s got a great piece. We do a lot of stuff on YouTube. We’ve been exploring how to get live, but having DIRTVision on the box there on the bottom of the Samsung TV is important to us as well. It’s our piece. We’ll keep working on what we think is best to help grow the sport and we appreciate all the live eyes on it as well/

“DIRTVision is a key critical component to making this thing work for us and I appreciate everybody who subscribes and is buying the event this weekend,” Carter continued. “It’s a critical component of this and that’s how we manage it along with our tape delay to make sure we spread the word. Those 16 shows become, three each become replays and all the rest. And then get shown a lot during the summertime. That’s a big deal for us.”

Carter also appeared to nix any kind of co-streaming deal with FloRacing for major events with Sprint Cars or Late Models, “World of Outlaws, we own our media rights from the very inception. Ted [Johnson] was smart enough to make sure they protected those. And it’s a difficult balancing act. Co-streaming starts us down a slippery slope that may not be recoverable especially as pour the resources we get from DIRTVision back into the racing.”

“I don’t know how that works inside of Flo,” he added. “At the end, racing is only a component of their business. I run DIRTVision and dirt racing is all I know how to do. So we’re going to be doing dirt racing. And we’ve had plenty of opportunities to do all sorts of other stuff and I’ve chosen to stay true to our roots and maintain the dirt racing pieces of this.”

While he appeared to be down any co-streaming, he did leave the door open for opportunities telling Chaz, “As long as it helps grow the sport, I’m open to it.”
