For the second night in a row, the Appalachian Mountain Speed Week has been rained out.
Marion Center Raceway shared the news in a post to Facebook, “With the amount of rain received and the forecast later today, we regret to inform you that today’s event has been canceled. We will see you Saturday.”
The series also was rained out on Wednesday night at Action Track USA with the series sharing it was due to rain as well, “Unfortunately 🌧️🌧️. We will try again tomorrow.”
It’s the third rain out for the series as the June 6 race at Port Royal Speedway was also rained out. Nevertheless, the series has gotten two of its planned five races in at Clinton County Speedway and Potomac Speedway. And the races have been highly entertaining.
At Clinton County, Trever Feathers, Dylan Yoder, Matt Cochran, and Gregg Satterlee put on a show. Feathers ended up winning and he discussed the wild action in victory lane, “It was wild. I really wanted to get in lap traffic and every time we get a little bit close one of them would spin out or something. I thought I had Satterlee ’cause I could pace and it looked like he was a little dependent on the mud. I just needed it to keep getting black and black. The blacker it got the better I was. When I slid him down here, I was expecting him to come back on a crossover in turn 1 and I saw nothing but blue. And I was like, ‘Who the hell is that?’ He had a good car. Cochran did.”
The series followed that up at Potomac Speedway where Justin Weaver took home the win in an attrition filled race that saw favorite Kyle Hardy go down early. Weaver said in victory lane, “We were a little harder on tires so when Kyle [Hardy] got out, I kinda wasn’t really surprised, but I knew he was going to be tough to beat once he got out there. And then once Jeremy [Pilkerton] got by me there on the top I was like, ‘Man, he’s really good.’ ‘Cause I couldn’t even get around that bottom. And he cruised right around me there. Luckily, I was able to kinda conserve and wait for these tires to fire.”
He added, “I hated to see Kyle and them have issues like that because it was going to be a good race. Once we finally fired we were able to hang with them and I think was going to be able to get up through there.”
After the two races, Weaver stands atop the points standings. However, he has a razor slim lead of just two points over Bryan Bernheisel. Tyler Emory is not far back in third, just 39 out.
The series heads to Bedford Speedway on Friday, June 12th and is expected to conclude at Lincoln Speedway on Saturday, June 13th. It is unclear if any of the races will be made up due to the rain. StockCarReport.com has reached out to the series to find out.
