Brenham Crouch’s team reported that the 20-year-old driver underwent successful surgery to repair the broken arm he suffered in a wreck during the Knoxville Nationals.
The team initially shared an update that Crouch was to undergo surgery on Tuesday morning in Indianapolis to repair his broken arms. Following the surgery on the night of Wednesday, August 26th the team shared that it was successful, “Brenham underwent successful surgery yesterday morning in Indianapolis to repair the broken arm he sustained at the Knoxville Nationals. He has been given a six-week recovery timeline before returning to full-time competition.”
“Thank you again to everyone for the prayers, support, and encouragement throughout this process. We sincerely appreciate it,” the team concluded.

Crouch was injured after he was involved in a brutal crash with Giovanni Scelzi during the Knoxville Nationals’ preliminary Hard Knox race.
On lap 5 of the 25-lap feature, Donny Schatz made a huge move passing both Scelzi and race leader Carson McCarl. Scelzi then made contact with McCarl’s right rear with his left front. The contact immediately sent Scelzi head first into the outside wall where he began flipping.
Crouch was running the high line through the corner and attempted to avoid the flipping Scelzi, but had nowhere to go and smashed hard into him. The contact then violently flipped him over before he eventually came to a stop on all four wheels.

With Crouch out of the car, CJB Motorsports and High Limit Racing announced that Dominic Scelzi would replace him during the series west coast swing. The series stated in a post to Facebook, “With Brenham Crouch sidelined due to a Knoxville Nationals injury, Dominic [Scelzi] will substitute in the Horizon Whiskey #5 through the entire west coast swing with Interstate Batteries High Limit Racing.”
Scelzi finished 14th at the first stop at Santa Maria Speedway. He then finished 24th at the Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway the next night. He finished 8th in a C Feature at Placerville.
The west coast swing for High Limit Racing continues tonight, Thursday, August 27th at Silver Dollar Speedway for the Gold Cup Race of Champions. The series will remain at Silver Dollar through August 29th. They will then head north to Douglas County Dirt Track on August 31st and close out the swing with the Skagit Nationals at Skagit Speedway from September 3-5.
Given Crouch’s 6-week recovery time, he would not be back in the car until early October when the series heads to Lakeside Speedway. He would miss a bevy of races throughout the month of September including the Tuscarora 50 at Port Royal Speedway and the three-night Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial at Lucas Oil Speedway as well as the Roto-Rooter Midweek Series Finale at Kokomo Speeday, and the 4-Crown Nationals at Eldora Speedway.
