Corey Day revealed why he flicked off Giovanni Scelzi during the Group B Duel with High Limit Racing at Eldora Speedway on Wednesday night.
On a restart with 10 to go, Scelzi did a whale of job to get past Day and take the lead. However, he was unable to hold him back as Day ripped the top and worked his way past him just a few laps later.
As he drove past him on the top exiting turn four and coming down the front stretch, Day flicked off Scelzi with his entire hand and arm outside of the car until he began to enter into turn 1.
Day would go on to win the race with Scelzi finishing in second behind him.
In his podium interview, Scelzi talked about the restart, how he got the jump on Day, and Day flicking him off, “We really didn’t battle a whole lot. He passed me and kinda drove away from me and then the way they’ve changed the restart cone, there’s no more cone on the front stretch, so you can go in turn 4. I felt like it was close. You can’t really see where he’s at and see where the cone’s at in 4. I figured it’d get called back, but it didn’t. It must’ve been okay.”
As for Day, he stayed mum in his victory lane interview making a joke about Scelzi’s Chili’s sponsor, “I just really like the Nashville Hot Mozzarella Sticks there. So I wanted to let him know.”
However, Day would provide more details to Always Race Day following his win in the Knight Before the Kings Royal race. Specifically, he shared that the final restart was the reason why he decided to flick off Scelzi. He shared, “Gio and I are buddies. I’ve known Dominic and Gio since I was really young. We, obviously, grew up in the same area. To tell you the truth, I’m busier elsewhere than to know that they changed the restart rule like that.”
“I just thought he got away with jumping the start. It was what it was. Heat of the moment type of deal, but we laughed about it after and there’s no hard feelings,” Day added.
Day will be back in action tonight for the $200,000 to-win Kings Royal at Eldora with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series. Racing action is expected to start at 4:30 PM ET with hot laps with qualifying to take place afterwards and then heat races, a C-Main, Last Chance Showdown, and finally the 40-lap feature.

The Toyota C-Main will be 12 laps with the Top 6 transferring to the Micro-Lite Last Chance Showdown.
The Micro-Lite Last Chance Showdown will be 15 laps with the top four transferring to the NOS Energy Drink feature.
Finally, the NOS Energy Drink feature will be 40-laps. The first 18 positions are set by the heat races with the pole sitter being the winner of Heat 6.
