USAC Racing announced that Drake Edwards’ BC39 preliminary win on Tuesday, June 30th has been revoked and he has been disqualified. Kevin Thomas Jr. has been declared the winner of the event.

In an announcement to Facebook, the series announced, “Driver Drake Edwards and the Chase McDermand Racing #40D have been disqualified from Tuesday’s USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget National Championship event at The Dirt Track at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.”

As for why the series shared that he and his team was “in violation of section 413.A.3 and 413.K of the series rulebook.”

Section 413.A.3 deals with engine size and RPM limits. It states, “Four cylinder in-line, two (2) valves per cylinder, water cooled, utilizing an aluminum block and/or head. Maximum 166 CID (2721 cc). Maximum RPM 8700.”

As for Section K it states, “All probationary RPM limits will be monitored at each event and are subject to RPM adjustments on, but not limited to, an event-by-event basis and may be adjusted during an event.”

The series shared that “analysis of the EFI box found the #40D to have its RPM set above the legal limit.”

Given the violation, Edwards and his team were repositioned to last place and their “points and payout will be issued accordingly.”

Kevin Thomas Jr. spoke with FloRacing after being declared the winner saying, “It is a little weird. You don’t like to do it like that, but it was good for our team especially for our car owners. They’re in love with IMS and they have a strong background with it. So it was great to finally get them one of those.”

“We had a good race car,” he added. “That was unfortunate. It’s hard to say, but he was pretty good regardless. And I don’t like those things. I don’t want to take anything away from what they accomplished either. I feel like that does a little bit, but I guess rules are rules. He drove a great race regardless. And Chase and those guys they run a good race program over there as well. So I really don’t want to get too deep into it, but it is good for us and we’ll take it.”

The BC39 concludes tonight with the opening ceremonies beginning at 7 PM and racing action slated to begin immediately after. Action includes qualifying races, C-Mains, Semi-Features, and the 39-lap feature event that pays out $20,039 to-win.
