Fast Freddie Carpenter announced on May 7th that he will no longer compete full-time with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.
Carpenter made the announcement on Facebook, “DROPPING OFF THE TOUR. It’s one of the hardest decisions I think I’ve ever had to make… To want to do something so bad and just not be able to make it happen is a horrible feeling.”
As for why, Carpenter explained, “With trying to run a business that demands all of your time and follow the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series tour, which demands as much, if not more time is virtually impossible.”
“Not to mention the financial aspect of it. It’s been costing an average of 5k a week to follow the tour and some nights only getting back $200. The stress of trying to keep up with it and not let my fans down is wearing me down and making me miserable to be around,” he added.
While he will no longer be competing full-time with the tour, he did say he plans to race with the series if they compete within a few hours from his shop in West Virginia and that he also plans to run a full schedule in 2027, “I still plan to run any Lucas Oil and other series races that are within a few hours from the shop. Its just being gone for weeks at a time that im not able to do right now. I hope to be able to try again next year. Knowing what I know now, I think we will have a better shot at going the distance.”
Carpenter concluded writing, “We will still wear our sponsors names proudly. Big thanks to them and all the fans that have helped me out along the way. Also want to say that the Lucas Oil officials and drivers have treated me like family along the way, and I really appreciate that! Thank you all, and like Forrest Gump said…. I Think I’ll Go Home Now.. check out these folks and see if they can be of a service to you. Help the ones that help us.”
Carpenter was 18th in the Lucas Oil Late Model Series points. He made 7 of the series 17 features. His best finishes in the series came more recently. He had two 16th place finishes. The first was at the end of March at Brownstown Speedway and the second in the middle of April at Georgetown Speedway. In two of the series most recent races at Hagerstown and Circle City he finished 17th.
