Jake Timm had a solid run going at Mason City Motor Speedway with the FloRacing Night in America series, but on the last lap it all ended horribly as he not only broke, but he also got demolished by Nick Hoffman.
In the closing laps of the race, Timm was running solidly in the 10th position, but he broke on the front stretch as the white flag waved and had moved to the top of the track entering turn 1. As the leaders came by to take the checkers, both Michael Leach, who was running in 15th and fighting to stay on the lead lap, as well as leader Hudson O’Neal ripped around the top. Hoffman was a couple of car lengths behind. As Leach and O’Neal crossed the finish line, they both went to the middle of the track to avoid the slowed Timm. Hoffman continued his line around the top, not seeing Timm. At the last second he attempted to get whoaed up, but it was too late and he slammed into the back of him causing significant damage to both his car and Timm’s.
The contact was so hard that Hoffman’s entire front end lifted up into the air immediately after striking Timm.

Timm reacted to the wreck in a post to Facebook writing, “Started 20th tonight and we were up to 10th, but unfortunately the motor let go with two laps left. The yellow wasn’t thrown as I was almost to a stop at the top of the track, and we got hit by another car at full speed. Due to the extensive damage, we will most likely not be making the trip to Maquoketa.”
In the comments, Timm also explained that he “broke at lap 48, was slowing for a couple laps.”

As for Hoffman, he told FloRacing’s Trenton Berry in his second place interview, “Luckily was able to get back to second, but yeah, I just seen [Jake Timm] at the last second, smoked him. No fault to Jake Timm there. It’s just we’re racing hard and I’m looking at Huddy and what’s in front of me and then he just kinda popped up there and I smoked him. It sucks.”
“Our race car is good. Hopefully, this one’s not killed. Longhorn builds a great race car and I’m going to assess the damage here. I mean it got a fuel line punctured and everything right now. Definitely got some work to do and it sucks going into a test day tomorrow,” he added.
In an interview with Always Race Day, Hoffman elaborated, “There was no fault to Flo or Jake Timm in that situation. Flo, I’m glad they let it play out and finish the race. The fans wanted that too. And as far as Jake, he blew a motor up. He’s just trying to limp back around and stay out of the way. And when I come off of 4 down the straightaway, I’m paying attention to Huddy and we got a couple lap cars around us and he just popped up out of nowhere, it felt like, and I just smoked him. Hate that for him, and then obviously my [stuff] gets tore up.”
