Mike Marlar had a decent showing during the first two preliminary nights of the World 100 at Eldora Speedway, but he will not be competing on Saturday night as he will be attending the wedding of his niece Addy.
Marlar shared in a post to Facebook, “Part 1 of our double-duty weekend is over. We enjoyed our time at Eldora, but now it’s time to head home for part 2 — celebrating our niece Addy and her future husband, Jordan!”
“Addy was the first one to make me an uncle, so this is a pretty special one for me,” he concluded. “Looking forward to being there for her big day!”
On Thursday night, Marlar qualified 28th in Group A. That gave him a 10th place qualifying position in Shootout 1. He advanced two spots to 8th to lock himself into the feature.
He continued to move forward in the feature. After starting 22nd, he moved up five spots to finish 17th.
On Friday night, Marlar qualified marginally better. He was 21st in Group B. That set him up with a 7th place starting position in Shootout 6. He advanced two spots to finish fifth.
Marlar started Feature 2 in 15th and moved up three spots to finish 12th.
With Eldora’s Every Lap Matters point system and Brandon Sheppard spinning a six on the Wheel of Misfortune, “The Winfield Warrior” just missed the invert. He is slated to start 7th in Heat 2 on Saturday. That heat is loaded with Joseph Joiner, Drake Troutman, Tristan Chamberlain, Bobby Pierce, Carson Ferguson, Chris Ferguson, Jason Jameson, Michael Norris, Gregg Satterlee, Ches Chester, Austin Smith, Ross Robinson, Jake Little, Jeff Erickson, Bryant Dickinson, and Evan Harrell also slated to compete in it.
Marlar is not the only driver to leave Eldora Speedway for family. Brandon Overton left after winning Feature 2 on Thursday to be with his wife for the birth of their son.
Justin Duty also left after Thursday night to be with his girlfriend in Oregon for the birth of their child.
It is unclear where Marlar will race next as he is running a pick and choose schedule, but it is highly likely that he heads to Knoxville, Iowa for the Lucas Oil Late Model Nationals at Knoxville Raceway. Marlar has had great success in the event and is the only 3-time winner. He won back-to-back in 2016 and 2017 and then got his third in 2021.
The Lucas Oil Late Model Nationals at Knoxville Raceway begin on September 17 and go through September 19th.
