Ohio Motorsport Photography shared a positive update on photographer Kyle E. Henline after he was struck by a sprint car in the infield of Wayne County Speedway on Monday night.
The company shared, “On Monday, June 15, 2026 while photographing at Wayne County Speedway for All Star Ohio Sprint Speedweek, Co founder of Ohio Motorsport Photography, at roughly 9:15pm Kyle E. Henline was struck by [a] 410 Sprint Car that had left the racing surface in turns one and two in an effort to avoid an accident in the middle of the turn.”
“Kyle was evaluated on site from the FENIX and Apple Creek paramedic service,” the company continued. “Kyle was transported to a hospital in Canton, OH after it was determined it would be quicker than waiting for a second MedFlight to arrive. Kyle was evaluated by the medical trauma unit upon arrival, he was found to have broken his tibea and fibea in his right leg. Around 7:30 Tuesday morning Kyle was taken back to surgery to have a metal rod implanted as well as plates and screws to fix the break. Kyle is currently in recovery at an undisclosed hospital surrounded by family.”
The update concluded, “The Henline and Ohio Motorsports Family would like to thank the Wayne County Speedway safety team and staff. They would also like to thank the Apple Creek Paramedic units and all of the love, support and prayers from the fans, peers and friends.”
Photographer Jim Balentine also shared an update on the other two photographers who were injured in the incident as well. He shared, “Chase is home recovering from his minor injuries. Thankfully, just a concussion as for right now. And Rick is in surgery, as of now 3:30 pm. He’ll pry be sedated all night so he prob won’t be able to talk to anybody. But I talked to him before he had the surgery and he seemed to be doing okay. But again, when something like this happens, you don’t really know. They are performing surgery today. They’ll know more. That’s about all I can tell you.”
At the end of his video, he stated, “Keep praying for all three. They’re not out of the woodwork by any way, shape, or form yet. So when they get home that’s when we can, I guess, relax a bit.”
The Apple Creek, East Union Township Fire Department initially shared in a press release that it “responded to an incident … during Ohio Sprint Speed Week at Wayne County Speedway involving a sprint car that left the racing surface and struck spectators located within the infield area of the track.”
“Three spectators sustained injuries as a result of the incident,” the Fire Department continued. “Two patients suffered critical injuries and required advanced medical care. One critically injured patient was transported by Apple Creek Fire Department, while a second critically injured patient was airlifted from the scene by MedFlight. A third patient sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported by Orrville Fire Department, who responded to provide mutual aid assistance.”
Wayne County Speedway also issued a statement clarifying that the sprint car did not enter the spectator area. It stated, “Wayne County Speedway is aware of reports circulating on social media and in some media coverage that describe Monday night’s incident as a sprint car entering the spectator area and striking spectators. To clarify, the individuals injured were located in the infield and were not spectators seated in the grandstands or spectator viewing areas.”
The track also applauded the first responders, “We would like to thank the Apple Creek Fire Department, Orville Fire Department, Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, MedFlight, Wayne County Justice Center dispatchers, our EMS personnel, and all responding agencies for their quick and professional response. The safety of our fans, competitors, staff, and officials remains our highest priority. We will continue to review the incident and gather information as it becomes available. Out of respect for the injured and their families, we will not be releasing any additional information regarding medical conditions or identities.”
