Longtime CARS Tour competitor Ronnie Bassett Jr. is reportedly dropping off the CARS Tour ahead of the series’ race at Dominion Raceway this weekend.
In the series’ preview for the Mini’s Mission 125 at Dominion Raceway only 25 cars are currently entered and Bassett’s name is not on the list. As for why Bassett is not on the list, Landon Huffman explained on his Huffman Racing Radio show on June 8th, “One name that stands out to me that is not on this list: Ronnie Bassett Jr.”
He then shared that Bassett is dropping off the tour, “Ronnie has decided he is no longer running full-time in the CARS Tour.”
As for why, Huffman explained, “Been tore up a lot. Fed up with some situations. Fed up with some calls. Aggravated that he keeps getting raced like [crap].”
Bassett finished 29th at Langley Speedway on May 30th after he slowed on lap 30. It was then reported that while he was getting pushed back to the pits, he would be issued up to a 3-lap penalty. FloRacing’s Eric Brennan said, “Should they be able to get this car back out and repaired, he’s going to be issued a penalty for intentionally drawing a caution. And we’re hearing that penalty could be up to 3 laps. However, there may be bigger problems for that team and organization as that car has yet to fire.”
Bassett might not be the only one to drop off before the end of the year, Huffman added, “I think Chad [McCumbee] is on the brink. I think the reason Chad is not taking this weekend off is because of Mini’s Mission.”
“I hope that Chad McCumbee does not leave the CARS Tour because, in my opinion, Chad is what makes the CARS Tour. He’s the type of guys that we need in the CARS Tour. And if we run Chad off, we’ve got a serious problem.”
McCumbee finished 18th at Langley despite running in the top 10 early in the race. However, while battling with Chase Burrows for the 8th position, McCumbee appeared to get pinched down and then drifted up the track and got into the side of Burrows and Burrows went around. It appears that McCumbee was penalized and sent to the rear due to the contact with Burrows as he restarted in the rear of the field.
