Selinsgrove Speedway announced that one of the three current track promoters, Colin Rice, will take over as the promoter with Jenna Mowery and Paula Schick departing.

On Monday, August 3rd, Mowery, Schick, and Rice announced in a joint statement that they would no longer be promoting the track past 2027 with the Selinsgrove Fair Association choosing not to renew the lease for 2027 and beyond.

They shared in a post to Facebook, “In November of 2024 when we first met with the Fair Board, we wanted to sign a 3-year contract. At the time, they decided that it would be mutually beneficial to draft a 1-year lease that could be renewed each year at the end of July by both parties. When we met recently, the board informed us that they now wanted to switch to a 3-year deal. We advised them in person that we were not comfortable with switching the lease as the current agreement was working well for us from a business standpoint. At that point we were told that they would discuss and get back to us with their decision. Today is when that decision was sent to us. The Fair Board is requiring a 3-year lease so they are choosing to decline our renewal. We are unsure of the Fair Association’s plans moving forward and request that all questions be directed to them and not our personal messages.”

As for why the trio was no longer interested in a 3-year commitment, Mowery explained in the comments, “My mom will be 65 in 3 years and you never know how things will be by then, both health-wise and in terms of the actual world. It’s far from a money-making venture so it’s crazy to commit to 3 more years of losing your own personal money when the fair board is “for profit” so you can’t get any grant money like other tracks do. We never told them that we wouldn’t do more than 1 more year, just that we wanted to keep doing the contracts year by year so that we weren’t stuck for a long time if we needed/wanted out. We even offered to do our meetings earlier in the year so if we were planning to get out that they would have a longer time to search for someone.”

In another comment, Mowery added, “It’s not all money. We wanted three years in 2024. That would be through next year, hence one more year. We agreed to what they wanted and then they changed their mind. If something is working, why should it change now?”

The Selinsgrove Fair Association issued a statement on Facebook promising it remains “fully committed to the future of racing at Selinsgrove Speedway.” and was disappointed that they could not reach an agreement.

The Association’s statement began, “Thank you, Paula, Jenna, and Colin, for your dedication, hard work, and the countless hours you’ve invested over the past two racing seasons. We sincerely appreciate your efforts and your commitment to Selinsgrove Speedway & Raceway Park and its fans.”

“The Selinsgrove Fair Association remains fully committed to the future of racing at Selinsgrove Speedway. As we have communicated, our Board’s goal was to establish a long-term agreement that would provide stability and certainty for the speedway, our racers, sponsors, and the entire racing community for years to come,” it declared. “While we are disappointed that we were unable to reach an agreement on those terms with SCD, we want to assure everyone that there will be racing at Selinsgrove Speedway in 2027 and beyond. Our Board is already working diligently to ensure the long-term success of the facility and looks forward to sharing more information as plans are finalized.”

“In the meantime, we encourage everyone to continue supporting the remaining events this season. Let’s come together to celebrate the rest of the 2026 racing schedule and the people who make Selinsgrove Speedway such a special place. We appreciate the continued support and patience of our racers, fans, sponsors, and volunteers as we work toward an exciting future for Selinsgrove Speedway,” it concluded.

Now, Rice announced that he is the track’s new promoter. He wrote on Facebook, ” I am honored to announce that I have accepted the opportunity to serve as the promoter of Selinsgrove Speedway for the next three years.”

He went on to provide further explanation on why the deal with him, Paula, and Jenna fell apart, “As discussions regarding the future of the speedway began in May (12), one of the primary topics was the length of the lease agreement. The Fair Board requested a three-year lease, but Paula and Jenna ultimately decided they were not interested in committing to that term. During a meeting in early July (7), they reiterated multiple times that they had no interest in signing a three-year lease agreement. I fully respect their decision and appreciate the time they devoted to evaluating their options. I wish them nothing but the very best moving forward.”

“At that point, I was faced with a decision: walk away or continue the work that so many people have invested in this facility. Having spent nearly every day at the speedway for two years, dedicating countless hours to its success, I could not stand by and watch it decline,” Rice shared. “My decision to move forward is rooted in my passion for this speedway and my belief in its future.”

Rice went on to share that he and his team will manage both the speedway and the go-kart track through 2029 and plan to continue racing with all the current racing divisions. He also announced that Steve Paige and Blane Heimbach will return as part of the track crew.
