The Southern Nationals announced that its July 18th race originally scheduled to take place at Screven Motor Sports Complex has been relocated to Cochran Motor Speedway.
Screven Motor Sports Complex announced earlier today that the 27th Annual Rebel Yell scheduled for Saturday, July 18th was canceled due to rain. The track shared in a post to Facebook, “Due to the significant amount of rain we’ve received throughout the week, unfavorable track conditions, and an unpredictable weather forecast, Redd Griffin has made the difficult decision to cancel the 27th Annual Rebel Yell.”
“This was not an easy decision, but after careful consideration, we believe it’s the best choice for our racers, teams, series, fans and staff,” the track added. “We know many of you were looking forward to this event, and we were excited to welcome everyone back to Screven Motor Speedway. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this cancellation may cause and appreciate your understanding.”
The track concluded, “Please know that we are already working on plans for the future and look forward to seeing everyone back at the track very soon. Your continued support means the world to us, and we can’t wait to get back to racing together. Thank you for your understanding, and we’ll see you at Screven Motor Speedway soon!”
With the race being canceled at Screven, the Southern Nationals worked with Cochran Motor Speedway to move their race there. The series shared in a press statement earlier today on Facebook, “With Screven Motor Speedway announcing the cancellation of the ‘Rebel Yell’ this morning, we have moved the event to Cochran Motor Speedway! The Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series presented by Coltman Farms Racing and fueled by GoSunoco will invade the Cochran, Georgia oval on Saturday, July 18 for a $7,553 to win program.”
“A HUGE thanks to the staff at Cochran Motor Speedway for taking this event on in such short notice,” the series added. “PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, like, comment, and share this post to help get the word out!”
Along with the Southern Nationals Series, the track will also have 602 Late Models, Street Stocks, Factory Stocks, Crown Vics, and Crown Vic Jr. divisions on hand.
Zack Mitchell currently leads the Southern Nationals points standings after three races. He has a two point lead over Donald McIntosh and a 10 point lead over Joseph Joiner. Garrett Smith is only 12 points back in fourth and Allen Styck is just 26 points back.
The series is in action tonight at Swainsboro with hot laps expected to start at 8:00 PM.
