Trent Ivey had a decent night going during Friday preliminary action for the 32nd annual Dirt Late Model Dream at Eldora Speedway, but unfortunately, it ended early just 15 laps into the feature.
Ivey and his Train Chassis with Vic Hill power started off the night qualifying in 16th. That put him deep in heat 4 with an eighth place starting spot. He was able to work his way up two spots to finish 6th, just one spot out of a transfer. He then started the second B-Main in second and was able to best Kyle Hammer and Ryan Montgomery to take home the win.
The B-Main win advanced him to the 50-lap feature, where he started 22nd. He fell a couple of positions to 25th, but looked like me might challenge Todd Morrow for 24th after going a lap down, but he slowed through the middle of turns 1 and 2 and eventually drew a caution right before he entered turn 3 as he was unable to get down and exit the track. He would not return and his night would be over.
Over on Facebook, Ivey shared that “motor issues ended our run tonight, but proud of this team for making it. 💭🏁” He ended up finishing in 26th.
His performance last night does have him starting in ninth in Heat 5 tonight. He will be up against Brandon Sheppard, Josh Rice, Jason Feger, Mike Marlar, Michael Leach, Dan Ebert, Brenden Smith, Ryan Montgomery, Garrett Smith, Austin Smith, Jerry Bowersock Chase Frohnapfel, Ryan Payne, and Chad Stapleton.
The top three drivers in the 15-lap heat race will advance to the 100-lap Dirt Late Model. For the cars that don’t transfer, they will head to a pair of 20-lap B-Mains, where the top three from each race will lock themselves into the feature.
There are two provisionals for the highest points earners who do not make it in through their heats. The two drivers currently at the top are Bobby Pierce and Jonathan Davenport.
