Johnny Gibson, the announcer for the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series and a National Sprint Car Hall of Fame member, announced he will finally be missing a race when the Outlaws run at Nodak Speedway on Monday night after getting rained out on Sunday night.
Gibson shared the announcement to social media where he revealed that his streak of announcing over 2400 races will come to an end because he will be seeing a concert in Nashville. Gibson wrote, “So ‘The Streak’ will officially end at 2465. I will not be at Nodak Speedway tomorrow. After 31+ years, I’m missing a race. The decision is purely personal, and not health related. I’ve had plans for this date since March, and I’m 100% fine with things ending on my own terms rather than having someone (like a doctor) make the decision for me.”
“Conner Wade will do a fine job in the booth, and I’ll be back Friday at Husets,” he continued. “And just for the sake of transparency, I’m going to Nashville tomorrow to see Social Distortion, The Descendents, and The Chats. Music has been a HUGE part of my life—nearly as much as racing. And as I close in on 58 having lost both of my parents in the last 6 years, I begin to get a slightly different perspective on my priorities.”
“Having said that, I probably wouldn’t miss a regularly scheduled race. But a make-up of a make-up has allowed me the opportunity to put this to rest on my own,” he concluded. “It’s just a number anyway…”

As Gibson noted, the race at Nodak Speedway was originally supposed to take place on May 31st, but was postponed to August 30th due to rain. Rain and thunderstorms on Sunday night pushed the race to be postponed again to Monday night. The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series explained in a press release, “With thunderstorms bringing heavy rainfall to Nodak Speedway Sunday evening leaving the track unsuitable for racing, World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series and SLS Promotions have agreed to postpone the remainder of the Gerdau Metals Recycling Magic City Showdown to Monday, Aug. 31.”
The last time the series competed at Nodak Speedway was back in 2018 when Daryn Pittman parked it in victory lane.
Heading into Monday night’s feature David Gravel sits atop the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Points Standings. He has a 184 point lead over Buddy Kofoid. Sheldon Haudenschild is in third 218 points back. Carson Macedo is fourth. He has a 258 point deficit. Logan Schuchart is fifth. He is 308 points behind.
